I came across this bunch of dandelions basking in the sun on my run this evening and it immediately sparked a childhood memory of picking them from our garden and making wishes by blowing away the feathery spores. My memories of summer as a child are always long carefree days spent outdoors in shinning sun (more than likely not the case in Ireland!)…Here are a few other things that filled my summer days as a child.
Forever in t-shirts, shorts and bare feet * bursting tar bubbles on the road * the smell of cut grass * paddling pools * free wheeling on my bike * Mr Freeze * grass fights * hearing the ice-cream van music * the tough decision between a 99 or a screwball * roller-skating * pitching tents in the garden * taking a spin on the tractor as my uncle baled the hay * going to bed when it was still bright outside * picking blackberries * going on our summer holidays down the country, packed into the car with everything bar the kitchen sink (they were the best!) * Choc Ice * garden birthday parties * recreating every summer sporting event with a collection of props * washing lines would become Wimbledon tennis nets * couch cushions would become show jumps for the Aga Khan Cup * Italia’90 * making bases in the hay * heading off down the fields for adventures unknown * water fights
I’d love to hear some of your childhood summer memories??
